Treatments, old and new
your treatmentsYour treatments are a bit extreme. And strange. Unusual. They get stranger as the list goes on. Although they probably sound normal to you. Just stay with me here. You will lance the buboes to drain the fluids you believe cause the infection. Which, given, is a sensible solution, it gives the victim a toxic shock and kills them anyways. Its better to just let them pop on their own if it gets to that point. You lot will hang pomanders o herbs and perfume around your necks to "purify" the air. Which in itself just makes the air thick with scent and gives everyone a headache. Drink wine to become lighthearted to ward off unhealthful effects of fear. Really? Just, really? That doesn't cure anything at all. In fact it kills them faster. Bloodletting, cutting people to let small amounts of blood drain at a time will be common. First of all, ouch. Second of all, no. That doesn't help people at all. It's already in their system. Just don't do it kay? Some treatments will be a bit absurd and out of a fantasy book. Potions. Including crushed unicorn horn? Unicorns died out before the Middle Ages. Come on guys. Then you use Arsenic and Mercury to heal people. Those two things ae extremely deadly to people. The you use Black Magic ad Witchcraft. Yes because Satan will heal us of course. But the strangest of all the treatments is to tie a LIVE CHICKEN to a bubo in HOPES that it will rid the body of the disease. What?! WHAT?! How in the name of Gallifrey does that even make sense?! But the doctors were the creepiest. They will wear masks that make them look like giant half-man half-bird creatures. They wore cloaks and cloves and boots, all coated in wax, and the eye-holes will have glass domes covering them. Inside the beak they will store herbs and perfumes to keep the plague air away. Some incense is going to be ignited with the belief the smoke will add another layer of protection. The costume will be especially thick around the neck to not let toxins in to poison the wearer. A wooden stick to lift clothing and bedding will complete this creepy costume concoction. Fun right? Of course it didn't work, they were constantly getting sick or dying and always living in isolation until desperate families need them. But i mean it was a good idea, kinda...

my treatmentsOur treatments are a little more....conventional. We use antibiotics (which is a medicine to treat infections) such as Ciprofloxacin, Doxycycline, Tetracycline, and Gentamicin. Ciprofloxacin is an antibiotic that treats extreme infections ad was made specifically for the plague. Doxycycline treats and prevents infection. Tetracycline is the same as Doxycycline, just more intense. These three are taken by mouth, except for Tetracycline, which is a shot. Gentamicin is a shot as well. a tube with a needle at the end is filled with medicine and then injected into your blood stream through the needle. Gentamicin is a medicine for systematic infections. These medicines, plus time (10-14 days), the infection heals.
